What do you say? Thala Da or Mankatha Da? Which one is apt? More than Mankatha, it is Ajith’s (Thala’s) magic that worked in favor of the movie. Venkat Prabhu created the required buzz around the film before release.

The trailer and other marketing factors helped but once after the release, it was Ajith’s magic. Ajith’s style did look the most charismatic in Mankatha which is why we said Thala at Best in our review.

Mankatha clearly eyed the big weekend of Ramzan and Vinayaga Chathurthi which explains its delay. It took in a mammoth Rs. 25.2 crore from Tamil Nadu alone. As we said in our box office collections, it is next only to Endhiran (Rs. 39.5 crore).

Everyone wonders how Ajith makes it without appearing on TV to promote his films. He does not indulge in any sort of publicity campaign and does not show up in audio launches. Yet, he reigns supreme.

At the moment, Ajith is clearly the next superstar. He is second only behind our Superstar. What do you say Ajith fans? Is it turning that way? Since collections are the indicators of Superstar status in Tamil cinema, Ajith is clearly the next Superstar!
